A sellout crowd of 5,513 "overflowed" the Univ. of MD-
Baltimore County Stadium Saturday in the third stop of the
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Summer Showcase, according to
James Giza of the Baltimore SUN, who wrote that the event
"showcased the edgy, in-your-face, breakneck style" of MLL
lacrosse. MLL co-Founder Jake Steinfeld said that 16
potential owners from Baltimore and Washington, DC, attended
the Showcase (Baltimore SUN, 7/30). Steinfeld said that the
"decision-making process" for choosing MLL's eight teams
"will begin" in September. Baltimore and DC are two of 16
cities "vying" for a team (Baltimore SUN, 7/29). MLL Dir of
Operations Gabby Roe said that MLL "was impressed" that the
DC area, including Annapolis, MD, and Northern VA, had ten
groups that "would put the requisite" $1M investment into
the league to secure a franchise. Roe: "We have five
cities, and right now Washington is the sixth." MLL is in
talks with networks regarding TV coverage for its inaugural
year and "is also negotiating" with companies to produce an
MLL PlayStation or Sega video game (WASHINGTON POST, 7/29).
