SURE BET? BLOOMBERG REPORT HAS NET IN TV DISCUSSIONS W/CBA

BET "is in negotiations" with the CBA to place the
league's games on its network, according to Soshnick &
Westhead of BLOOMBERG NEWS. BET VP/Media Relations Michael
Lewellen: "We're always looking to supplement our
programming, add some diversity. We're interested in adding
some CBA games to the second half of the new [TV] season."
The CBA currently "doesn't have" a TV contract. Meanwhile,
NBPA Exec Dir Billy Hunter "wouldn't speculate on what a
possible" CBA-BET TV agreement "would mean for the league or
how much it'd be worth." Hunter: "It could be like an
infomercial, where [outgoing CBA Chair] Isiah [Thomas] is
paying them to help create brand identity, or BET could be
paying the league $5" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 7/27).
