WILL SEAHAWKS' TEMPORARY HOME IN WA BE A PONCHO VILLA?

While a new, $430M stadium is being built to replace
the Kingdome, the Seahawks will play all their home games
for the next two seasons at the Univ. of WA's Husky Stadium,
"which has a small roof covering only some seats," according
to Helen Jung of the WALL STREET JOURNAL INTERACTIVE. So the
the team is "considering handing out free items, such as
sunscreen and ponchos, to help loyalists make the
transition" to the outdoor setting. Meanwhile, suite holders
have received "survival packs" containing ponchos, blankets
and binoculars. The team is also "lining up" companies to
sponsor and provide "weather-related promotional items" for
each of the ten pre- and regular-season home games this
year. Seahawks Senior VP/Marketing Operations Duane McLean:
"We're looking at all possibilities to acclimate people to
the surroundings, and we're looking at all possible
promotional opportunities to help us" (WSJ.com, 7/25).
