In L.A., T.J. Simers reports that PHILIP ANSCHUTZ "has
given permission to spend" $100M to build a track and field
stadium at CA State Univ. in Carson. The facility would
seat "as many" as 20,000, and have a velodrome and softball
fields in addition to tennis and soccer stadiums (see THE
DAILY, 7/5). Simers: "It's only a rumor now, but there is
talk that PETE SAMPRAS will emerge as Anschutz's partner and
lend his name and time to the West Coast Tennis Academy."
Anschutz has "asked his L.A. lieutenants to look into
acquiring more land in the area and to interest TIGER WOODS
in overseeing a golf academy" (L.A. TIMES, 7/26).

Angeles magazine and featured on The Food Network on its
"Best Of" series. Johnson: "I try and pick from everybody I
can, little pointers, little views, what do you think about
this, before I get into any decisions. I'm not just going
to make a crazy decision, open a restaurant [and] have
nothing. I mean this was research that went on for three
years" ("Up Close," ESPN, 7/25)....BROADCASTING & CABLE's
