GIVING CBC A WOMAN'S TOUCH: SPORTS EXEC LEE MAKES HER MARK

CBC Sports Exec Dir Nancy Lee is "wasting no time in
putting her stamp" on the network, according to Chris
Zelkovich of the TORONTO STAR, who profiles the newly tapped
network exec. Lee's influence "was evident" last week when
"HNIC" Exec Producer John Shannon was "let go," as insiders
say that the decision "was Lee's all the way." Lee has also
"no doubt ruffled a few feathers in fulfilling the CBC's
mandate to cut pro sports" by 20%. The latest move in that
area "was her decision to let the Toronto and Vancouver Indy
races go to" Global TV. Meanwhile, Lee is "planning" to
give CBC "a woman's touch" by offering more women's sports
events. Lee: "Getting more sports on the air that appeal to
women makes a lot of sense. Where is our growth going to
be? Women." Lee wants to add a woman to its "HNIC." Also,
sports "that don't offer women equal prize money to men
won't get air time on CBC" (TORONTO STAR, 7/25).
