          Heat C ALONZO MOURNING hosted his annual ZO'S SUMMER
     GROOVE over the weekend, and in Miami, Dan LeBatard wrote:
     "Thank you, Alonzo Mourning.  For giving.  For caring.  For
     loving.  For standing so much taller than 6-10" (MIAMI
     HERALD, 7/16)....In N.Y., Bob Raissman reported that BRANDON
     STEINER's STEINER SPORTS has brought STEVE HISLER's PASTIME
     SPORTS "into its fold" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/16)....In
     Baltimore, Vito Stellino reported that agent STEVE WEINBERG
     "recently joined forces" with DAVID CANTER of TOTAL
     ENTERTAINMENT AND ATHLETE MANAGEMENT.  Canter said the firm
     provides "360-degree client care," handling "every facet of
     a player's career and life."  The firm represents 12 NFL
     draft picks this year (Baltimore SUN, 7/16)....PHILIP
     ANSCHUTZ will donate more than $775M in Qwest Communications
     stock to the Anschutz Foundation during the next five years
     (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/15)....Four years after MICHAEL
     FRANCIS resigned as Chair of the NJ Sports & Exposition
     Authority (NJSEA) amid allegations he "abused his position,"
     NJSEA said Friday that it would pay him $463,862 to
     compensate his expenses "in getting the criminal charges
     dropped."  NJSEA spokesperson JOHN SAMERJAN said that both
     sides "consider the matter closed" (Bergen RECORD, 7/15).
     ...The N.Y. TIMES BOOK REVIEW's Andrea Cooper, on JERE
     LONGMAN's new book about the '99 U.S. Women's World Cup
     team, titled "THE GIRLS OF SUMMER": "He gives a balanced
     assessment of controversial subjects, ... [but] stumbles
     occasionally when he tries too hard to say the ordinary in
     new ways" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/16)....Athletes profiled in the
