DOES CARL SCHEER WANT IN ON NBA DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE?

          Greenville Grrrowl Chair and former Hornets GM Carl
     Scheer, who operates the Bi-Lo Center in Greensville, SC,
     "could soon have a key role" in the NBA's proposed
     developmental League, as he "made a pitch" last week for his
     Scheer Sports to consult on the project, according to Rick
     Bonnell of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER.  Scheer might try to
     place a franchise in Greenville (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/16).
          HOT TOWN, SUMMER IN THE CITY: ESPN's Marc Stein wrote
     that with NBA summer leagues in progress, there are
     "persistent whispers about serious movement to bring summer
     -play to Las Vegas."  It almost happened this summer if "not
     for NBA commissioner David Stern's concerns about games
     being staged in a hotel casino's arena" (ESPN.com, 7/14).
