NBA: In Miami, Barry Jackson writes that Heat ratings on
WAMI-IND this past season "dipped" to 3.0, down from 5.0 in
'99. WAMI exec Chuck Budt, on the decline: "It was very
disappointing. We all expected something different than what
we got. I don't see any way that you don't make changes [to
the Heat's roster]. ... Viewers aren't stupid, and you can't
trick them" (MIAMI HERALD, 6/30).
WNBA: NBC's season-to-date rating for four WNBA
telecasts is 1.7/5, even with last year's rating for two
telecasts on comparable dates (NBC).
MLB: Fox's season-to-date rating through five telecasts
is even with last year's 2.8/9 through the same amount of
broadcasts. Fox' rating for its fifth weekend was down 7%
from last year's 2.8/10 (Fox). In Chicago, Ed Sherman writes
that the White Sox "dominated in June" on FSN Chicago, by
averaging a 3.2 rating for 15 games, while the Cubs drew a
2.2 rating. A local ratings point is compared to 32,047 HHs
(CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/30)....In Atlanta, Prentis Rogers writes
that this weekend's four-game Braves-Mets series "is a
programmer's dream and it didn't need the [Braves P John]
Rocker circus to be compelling. But the hype won't hurt the
ratings" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 6/30).
