AND THROUGH THE WIRES, ELLMAN'S COYOTE DEAL GETS CLOSER

Developer Steve Ellman said yesterday that "he will
wire" a $6.5M payment to the NHL today "to satisfy a league-
imposed deadline to carry out" his purchase of the Coyotes,
according to Bob McManaman of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Ellman:
"We'll make the payment (today) and we'll be right on course
to get this deal done." McManaman adds that with the $10M
Ellman sent to the league last month, he will have paid 61%
of the funds needed to complete the purchase from outgoing
Owner Richard Burke, because the "actual sale" of the
franchise is for a reported $87M (see THE DAILY, 5/26), but
Ellman and his investment group are "only required" to pay
$27M to Burke to complete the transaction. Ellman said that
the $27M is "how much equity Burke has" in the Coyotes, with
the remaining $60 million financed through a French bank,
Societe Generale. Ellman, noting after this payment he has
$10.5M more to pay to Burke: "Once we pay him $27 million,
he's done and we're in" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 6/29).
