EARLY NUMBERS SHOW THAT XFL IS MAKING BLIPS ON RADAR SCREEN

          A survey commissioned by THE SPORTS BUSINESS DAILY and
     conducted by the ESPN Sports Poll asked a random sample of
     520 respondents representing the U.S. population, aged 12+,
     about the WWF's new football league, the XFL.  Look for THE
     DAILY to feature additional survey results, broken down by
     key demographic groups, early next month (THE DAILY):

     1)  "CAN YOU TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE XFL?"
     
  12.3%  -- Mentioned WWF, Vince McMahon or a football league
  85.2%  -- Could not recall anything or had never heard of it   

          Among 454 sports fans:

  14.0%  -- Mentioned WWF, Vince McMahon or a football league
  83.2%  -- Could not recall anything or had never heard of it   

          Respondents who couldn't tell us anything about the XFL
     unaided were asked, "ARE YOU AWARE THAT THE WWF IS LAUNCHING
     A FOOTBALL LEAGUE?"  Of those, 28.4% of the sample (n=468)
     were aware and 31.2% of sports fans (n=403) were aware.     

     2)   "HOW LIKELY WILL YOU BE TO WATCH AN XFL GAME ON TV?"

  28.8% -- Somewhat or very likely to watch
  67.9% -- Not likely or not at all likely to watch

          Among 454 sports fans:
     
  31.0% -- Somewhat or very likely to watch
  65.3% -- Not likely or not at all likely to watch
