BROADBAND SPORTS KEEPS MOVING FORWARD IN GRABBING NEW PIECES

Broadband Sports "hired the entire" Web-development
team from the defunct Digital Entertainment Network and
"several" Fox producers, according to Noah Liberman of the
SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Broadband CEO Richard Nanula said
the new staff was hired at a "slight escalation in salaries"
from pre-IPO levels, but he added that employees "are still
getting stock options" and the company recently secured
additional funding from previous investors at a per-share
valuation "that was higher than the IPO's plan." Nanula
"would not state the exact amount" of the investment.
Nanula added that Broadband may add "more sports teams to
its stable of partners" after the company's deal with the
Cowboys: "The good news is that prices [for team Web rights]
have come down dramatically" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/26).
NEW WEB PARTNER: Anheuser-Busch signed an advertising
deal with Broadband Sports to run banner ads and online
promos as part of a year-long campaign (Broadband Sports).
GO FETCH: Lycos launched its new sports portal, Lycos
Sports, which includes content from Broadband Sports. One
feature of Lycos Sports is Lycos 50 Most Searched Athletes
list, which is currently topped by Anna Kournikova (Lycos).
