NAMES IN THE NEWS

          In N.Y., Steve Popper reports that "controversial"
     agent ANDY MILLER will represent former St. John's G ERICK
     BARKLEY. Miller is facing criminal charges in FL for
     allegedly making "numerous phone calls" to former Univ. of
     FL F MIKE MILLER while not being a registered agent in the
     state.  Andy Miller is also the subject of a lawsuit brought
     by another agent, ERIC FLEISHER, who alleges that Miller
     "stole his clients" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/22)....MICHAEL JORDAN
     will play in the 11th annual American Century Celebrity Golf
     Championship in Lake Tahoe, NV. The event airs on NBC July
     8-9 (THE DAILY)....Seattle billionaire CRAIG MCCAW will
     support a "One World Syndicate" that will build two boats
     and spend $75M for the 2003 America's Cup.  In DC, Angus
     Phillips writes that an announcement about Oracle CEO LARRY
     ELLISON's investment in America's Cup is "still to come"
     (WASHINGTON POST, 6/22). ...BRANDY will sing the national
     anthem at the MLB All-Star Game at Turner Field on July 11
     (USA TODAY, 6/22)....Former Duke F COREY MAGGETTE has been
     subpoenaed by federal prosecutors about his dealings with
     former AAU coach MYRON PIGGIE.  If Maggette testifies Piggie
     gave him money at school, it "could cause the NCAA to vacate
     DUKE's runner-up finish" in the '99 NCAA tournament and Duke
     "also may have to return up to $226,815 in tournament
     revenue" (CHARL. OBSERVER, 6/22)....A&E's "Biography"
     tonight on JOE LOUIS airs at 8:00pm ET (Mult., 6/22).
