SUMMER SCHOOL: NFL EUROPE BEGINNING TO MAKE NAME FOR ITSELF

In "contrast to its dismal showing when it" debuted in
'91, NFL Europe "appears to be finally establishing itself
as a successful enterprise," as crowds have "grown" from
10,000 to 40,000 or more, according to William Drozdiak of
the WASHINGTON POST. NFL owners, after "lots of initial
skepticism about whether they were throwing their money down
the drain, are beginning to realize they might be able to
make some serious profits with the European venture."
Drozdiak: "There is a clear recognition now that they
[owners] have a lot to gain by expanding American football's
appeal abroad while endowing their teams with a valuable
farm system to train promising rookies and rehabilitate has-
beens." Drozdiak also writes that owners "are scouting" for
two new expansion cities, "possibly in" Italy, France,
Poland or the Czech Republic (WASHINGTON POST, 6/21).
GEARING UP: The NFL will unveil the "NFL.com Helmet-
Cam" during World Bowl 2000 from 1:00-4:00pm ET Sunday on
Fox. A new "umpire-cam" will also be used. Live streaming
video of both cameras will be available on NFL.com (NFL).
