FRANCHISE NOTES

The AP cites Univ. of NC at Wilmington (UNCW) AD Peg
Bradley-Doppes as saying that the Wizards will hold training
camp at the school, which is in the hometown of team
President of Basketball Operations Michael Jordan. The
Wizards have trained for "several years" at Shepherd College
in Shepherdstown, WV. The Wizards will pay UNCW a fee that
"has not been disclosed" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/16)....In
Edmonton, Scott Pattison writes that Oilers Chair Cal
Nichols was appointed team Governor yesterday, replacing Jim
Hole, who resigned. Nichols said NHL Commissioner Gary
Bettman "endorsed the move wholeheartedly. It actually
works better when the chairman is the governor of the team
as well. Three-quarters of the teams in the league do it
that way already" (EDMONTON SUN, 6/16)....Retail cooperative
Calgary Co-op, the Canadian Coca-Cola Bottling Company and
the Flames have entered a partnership by which Calgary Co-op
will individually sell the 200 Flames season tickets it
purchased. The tickets will be sold at all Calgary Co-op
locations for the "Coca-Cola Real Fan Zone," and will be
available for purchase in early September (Flames)....The
CP's Dan Ralph wrote that the CFL Argonauts have "taken some
steps to entice fans." Ticket prices have been reduced, the
team will give away one game jersey at each home game and
hold a drawing in which the winner will receive C$1 for
every spectator in attendance (CP, 6/15).
