JUDGE THROWS OUT PARTS OF RAIDERS' LAWSUIT AGAINST COLISEUM

In a tentative ruling yesterday, Sacramento County
Superior Court Judge Joe Gray "threw out vital portions" of
the Raiders' lawsuit against Network Associates Coliseum
officials and "might have given them the chance to kill the
team's case" against them, according to David Holbrook of
the CONTRA COSTA TIMES. The ruling "prevents the Raiders
from pursuing charges of conspiracy, breach of good faith
and other allegations against the public agencies and
private individuals" who brokered the team's move back to
Oakland in '95. Gray left "intact" the team's allegations
of fraud and negligent misrepresentation that are the
"basis" for its $1.1B suit. However, the ruling "implies
[Brown] would consider a new motion by Coliseum officials to
strike those charges as well," which accuse them of "falsely
promising the team a sold out stadium to lure them from"
L.A. Attorneys for the city of Oakland and Alameda County
called the ruling a "major victory" (C.C. TIMES, 6/13).
