In Milwaukee, Kenneth Lamke reports that a new, $5M
"partial settlement" of the Miller Park crane accident
lawsuit filed by the three widows of the ironworkers killed
on the site was approved Monday, bringing the total
settlement to $7M. The "main target" of the suit,
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of America, is "not involved in
either settlement, so the final damages amount appears
likely to go much higher" (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 6/13).
NOTES: K.C. police said yesterday that the three
gunshots at Kauffman Stadium on Friday night "probably were
fired from outside the stadium" (K.C. STAR, 6/13)....In
Minneapolis, Bob von Sternberg writes on media companies'
influence on sports teams and new facilities: "Increasingly,
newspapers and other media companies nationwide have become
tightly aligned with pro sports franchises and stadium
campaigns -- sometimes to the point of owning all or part of
a team. Some of the involvement is prompted by media
executives' attitudes about their role in the community.
Some is a reaction to the vast changes that are roiling all
media companies" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/13)....In
Nashville, Lakisha Langster reported that the Titans are
paying $70,000-100,000 to resod the entire field at Adelphia
Coliseum this week (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 6/10).
