SIMONS SAY, "WE'LL KEEP THOSE KNICKS FANS OUT AT ANY COST"

Pacers Owners Melvin and Herb Simon "have taken steps
to prevent" Knicks fans from sitting in courtside seats at
Conseco Fieldhouse for tonight's Game Five of the Knicks-
Pacers series, according to Mark Montieth of the
INDIANAPOLIS STAR, who writes that the Simons "are offering
to buy back" tickets for the first seven rows from Pacers
season-ticket holders "who are not planning to attend the
game." The Simons "are willing to match any offer ticket
holders receive from brokers." The repurchased tickets will
be donated to local youths "who otherwise would not have an
opportunity to sit courtside." Knicks fans "were scattered
around" the arena for Game Two, about eight of whom
accompanied Spike Lee, and several others "occupied prime
locations" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/31). Pacers GM David Kahn:
"It's better to have our hometown fans sitting in our best
seats. It's a free country, and that's why our owners are
choosing to do this." In N.Y., Egbert & Goldiner write that
"perhaps fearing a slam dunk of bad publicity," the Pacers
are offering two "prime seats" for the game, "valued at more
than" $1,000, to Lee (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/31).
