SARA LEE TO KEEP BALLPARK FRANKS, BUT SPIN OFF CHAMPION

          CNBC's Jennifer Lewis-Hall reported that as part of its
     "restructuring" to "boost the company's stock price," Sara
     Lee Corp. is selling NC-based Champion, its $500M "maker of
     athletic clothing" ("Business Center," CNBC, 5/30).  Sara
     Lee President & COO Steve McMillan, on selling Champion:
     "We've actually been in the apparel business for over 20
     years and very successfully.  We think it's a wonderful
     business.  We felt like it had gotten too diverse.  We tried
     to stay away from fashion businesses" ("Moneyline," CNNfn,
     5/30).  McMillan said that the company will focus on food
     products, "such as Ball Park franks," and its underwear
     unit, which includes Hanes (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/31).
