NHRA TO NIX DALLAS EVENT? TRACK OWNER MEYER SEEKS ANSWERS

Texas Motorplex Owner Billy Meyer said that "he plans
to sell" the motorplex and a "big reason for Meyer's
decision is the difficulty he has had in dealing with NHRA
officials," according to Mark Zeske of the DALLAS MORNING
NEWS. While NHRA officials say that the 2001 schedule
"probably won't be released until July," Meyer says that it
"appears likely" that this year's Castrol Nationals "will be
the last." Meyer said that NHRA officials "won't even
discuss the state of the race with him." Meyer: "They won't
take my phone calls. The[y] refused to meet with the
sponsor." Zeske noted that the NHRA "made major changes"
during the off-season and is looking to secure a new TV
package and has "designed rules to make racing safer." NHRA
President Tom Compton, responding to Meyer: "Most of the
NHRA's business partners like what we're doing. I think if
you went down to the pit area, you'd get a different
response (than Meyer's)" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/28).
