homes. For cable, "COV AREA" = % of homes tuned in to that
program in that network's universe of subscribers.
NBA: Through 20 playoff games, NBC is averaging a
4.6/13 Nielsen rating, down 21% from last season's 5.8/16
(NBC). DAILY VARIETY's Rick Kissell reports that Turner
Sports is averaging a 2.6 rating for its 33 games, down 4%
from a 2.7 last year (DAILY VARIETY, 5/19). Knicks-Heat
Game Five generated the highest rating of the season in the
Ft. Lauderdale-Miami market, as the Sunshine Network
recorded an 8.6 rating (TV SportsFile, 5/18). In Contra
Costa, Damin Esper: "The NBA's ratings will continue to drop
just like baseball's and the NFL's have. Attendance will
continue to decline. Attendance and ratings (or more
simply, interest) were kept artificially high because of
[Michael] Jordan's presence" (CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 5/19).
PGA TOUR: The final round of the Byron Nelson Classic
was up 31% from last year (CBS).
