Kellogg will launch a special edition of its Frosted
Flakes cereal product this month featuring MI State Univ.
men's basketball coach Tom Izzo, as well as MSU players
Mateen Cleaves, A.J. Granger and Morris Peterson, with Tony
the Tiger. The launch marks the first time Kellogg has
featured a championship college basketball team on its
Frosted Flake box. The package will be shipped to retail
outlets primarily in MI later this month (Kellogg)....SI
reports that the NBA "barred" Lakers F Rick Fox from wearing
a sweatband with No. 15 on it, a "reference to how many
postseason victories it takes" to win the NBA title. Fox
and his brother are marketing "First To 15" paraphernalia
during the playoffs (SI, 5/22 issue)....While Canadian
snowboarder Ross Rebagliati will not participate in the 2002
Winter Olympics, there is a "possible" new contract for him
with Roots "to promote shoes and clothing." Additionally,
Rebagliati is working with One Track Snowboards to design
two snowboard models -- "both pointedly called Second Hand
Smoke," in reference to Rebagliati's claim that he tested
positive for marijuana at the '98 Games because he was "at a
party full of pot smokers" (MACLEAN'S, 5/15)....BRANDWEEK's
Terry Lefton reports that Reebok is "relaunching" its
Blacktop basketball shoe, designed "specifically for outdoor
use," with a $6M effort, "beginning with two truly over-the-
top" TV spots. Rockets G and NBA co-Rookie of the Year
Steve Francis is featured in the ads but is "not even shown
playing basketball" (BRANDWEEK, 5/15 issue).
