IBL TO SPONSOR STOCK CAR; NO LIMITS TO NASCAR LICENSING?

The IBL has reached a sponsorship agreement with
Burgman Motorsports for the next four American Speed
Association (ASA) races, beginning with the BF Goodrich 300
at Nashville Speedway this Sunday. The deal also includes
the AC Delco Service Specialist 300 at Louisville Motor
Speedway on June 10, as well as the June 17 race at Hawkeye
Downs Speedway in IA and the June 24 race in Odessa, MO.
All 20 races on the ASA circuit are televised on TNN (IBL).
NO PRODUCT UNTURNED? In Atlanta, Al Levine cites
NASCAR-licensed fishing lures and writes, "Has NASCAR
crossed the line with its marketing efforts? Probably not.
The philosophy is simple: If the product is large enough,
NASCAR will slap a logo and a number on it." NASCAR Thunder
store manager Brian Royce: "Racing fans will buy anything."
Levine adds, "Those who think that racing fans might be just
a tick backward now have some real evidence: A wristwatch
that is new on the market counts down the hours and minutes
between Winston Cup races" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 5/19).
