A SHORT STACK W/SYRUP, AND THOUGHTS ON IMPROVING THE ISLES

At their breakfast meeting at a Long Island IHOP with
four Islanders fans yesterday, team Owners Charles Wang and
Sanjay Kumar "were presented with over 100 suggestions on
how to improve all aspects of the club," according to Barry
Baum of the N.Y. POST. At the one-and-a-half-hour round-
table discussion at the "acclaimed" restaurant, fans Bob
Ceparano, Steve Ellers, Art Feeney and Nava Brahe "informed
the new owners about the multitude of problems surrounding
the club on and off the ice, while offering ways to fix
them." Baum writes that although neither Wang nor Kumar
"intently listened" to the fans' advice, an Islanders
assistant "furiously took notes." Ellers: "It was an
excellent meeting. We seem to be on the same page. ...
They're very down to earth." Some of the fans' suggestions
included hiring Bob Gutkowski as team president,
broadcasting Islanders games on a clear signal radio station
and fixing the leaking Nassau Coliseum roof. To show their
support for the team and ownership, Ellers and Feeney
changed the name of their fan group from Save The Islanders
to Support The Islanders Coalition (N.Y. POST, 5/10).
