After Bengals first-round draft pick PETER WARRICK
dropped SFX Sports as his representation, his new agent NORM
NIXON said, "[Warrick] was afraid to make (a switch) before
the draft because people have these expectations that he's a
bad kid. He's a simple, good kid. (Friends and family),
they believed anything that might happen before the draft
might hurt his position" (CINCINNATI POST, 4/27). But Fred
Edelstein reports in his PRO FOOTBALL INSIDER that Warrick's
dropping of SFX agent MICHAEL GEORGE "may be temporary.
Warrick is into SFX for significant money. He's already
signed marketing guarantees and has gotten an advance in the
$365,000 neighborhood. There were also training, recruiting
and other expenses. All told, SFX has put over $500,000
into Warrick." Edelstein adds, "If [Warrick] wasn't happy
with George, well, SFX can live with that. George's SFX
deal is coming to a close. The firm's been in talks with
JIM STEINER for months to take over its football practice.
Once Steiner's aboard, SFX will take another run at Warrick.
Meanwhile, SFX is keeping the lines of communication with
Warrick open" (PRO FOOTBALL INSIDER, 4/27 issue).
