Golfer Jesper Parnevik, who is an owner and partner of
LiFizz Effervescent Vitamins, is profiled by John Hawkins of
GOLF WORLD, who writes that Parnevik and his business
partner Chris Rosen began distributing LiFizz about a year
ago and the product "already is available in 16,000 stores,"
as Rosen "just landed a big deal" with national drug chain
Eckerd. Parnevik's and Rosen's "plan is to debut a high-end
line of products in the health-food market this fall," and a
"sports 'recovery' drink and pre-natal libation are on the
way." Parnevik's financial stake in LiFizz is "substantial,
and if things keep going the way they've gone so far, it
won't be getting any smaller." LiFizz did about $15M in
business in '99, and Rosen "hopes to push sales" to $2M per
month by the end of this year. LiFizz is a sponsor of both
the PGA and LGPA Tours (GOLF WORLD, 4/28 issue).
SALESMAN? Cleveland Golf President Greg Hopkins, on why
the company pays Vijay Singh more than $1M a year to endorse
its clubs: "Not to sell golf clubs. We never say, 'If we
invest X number of dollars in Vijay Singh, then we will sell
X number of golf clubs.' ... We are looking for players to
represent the company. It's more of an exercise in branding
than it is an exercise in salesmanship" (GOLFWEEK, 4/22).
