INSIGHT.COM BOWL LEAVES TUCSON, BANKS ON PHOENIX FOR CROWDS

The Insight.com Bowl is ending its 11-year tenure at
Arizona Stadium in Tucson and will move to Bank One Ballpark
in Phoenix beginning with this year's game on December 28,
according to Greg Hansen of the ARIZONA DAILY STAR. The
Arizona Sports Foundation, which oversees both the
Insight.com Bowl and the Tempe-based Fiesta Bowl, "voted
unanimously yesterday to terminate the Tucson game." One
Insight.com Bowl official said that the game "has lost more
than" $100,000 in each of the last three seasons under
Fiesta Bowl management, including a loss of more than
$200,000 in '99. The bowl has two years left on its
contract with the Big 12 and Big East and will be title
sponsored by Insight.com through the 2001 game. Bank One
Ballpark officials signed a two-year deal with the bowl,
which will mark the first football game played at the
facility (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 4/26). Maricopa County
Stadium District Dir Bill Scalzo said that most of the
49,003 seats for baseball at the ballpark "probably could be
used for football." Additional seating will come from
portable bleachers. The facility will seat around 50,000
for the bowl game (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/26).
