NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The ORIOLES and former manager PHIL REGAN have reached
     an "out-of-court settlement" that allowed Regan to sell the
     lineup card for the game in which CAL RIPKEN JR. broke the
     all-time consecutive games played record.  While neither
     side is disclosing details, a VA resident said that he
     "recently paid more than $40,000 for the card, as well as
     the one" used for the previous game, when Ripken tied the
     record (Baltimore SUN, 4/19)....In Las Vegas, Ron Kantowski
     wrote, "One of the more bizarre rumors making the rounds ...
     is that [PCL] Las Vegas Stars managing director KEN STICKNEY
     has divorced himself from the day-to-day operations of the
     ... ballclub -- one of four he and his father HANK co-own --
      to pursue an acting career" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 4/18)....An
     iSwag.com survey of 459 people found that "people in BULLS
     gear tip the best [at restaurants and bars] among those
     wearing basketball logo items" and that "people wearing
     LAKERS garb are the worst tippers" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES,
     4/19)....Jay Leno, on ELIAN GONZALEZ: "[FIDEL] CASTRO is
     getting mad.  See what he said today?  He said, 'If Elian
     doesn't come back to Cuba soon, he will lose his job at the
     NIKE factory'" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 4/18).
          TABLE TALK: ALEXANDRA STEVENSON met with SC Gov. JIM
     HODGES on Monday to discuss the Confederate flag controversy
     (Charleston POST & COURIER, 4/18).  Hodges "invited"
     Stevenson to speak to the state's General Assembly on the
     flag issue (USA TODAY, 4/19).  CBS SportsLine's Mike Lurie
     writes that the controversy "continues to alienate athletes,
     coaches and others of all colors -- from" SERENA WILLIAMS to
     LOU HOLTZ to TOMMY BOWDEN (CBS SportsLine, 4/19).
