METROSTARS MOVING AHEAD ON STADIUM WITH OR W/OUT YANKEENETS

The MetroStars are "still moving ahead with plans to
build a stadium it can call home," according to Tim Leonard
of the Bergen RECORD, who writes that team GM Nick Sakiewicz
met yesterday with Newark City Council members and toured
two "potential sites" for a 30,000-seat stadium for the
franchise. The team has "three possible sites" in Harrison,
NJ for the proposed soccer-only stadium. Leonard, on the
MetroStars: "Whatever they decide, it appears they will be
making a decision on their own and not in conjunction with
YankeeNets." One report said that MetroStars investor-
operator Stuart Subotnick "demanded" $30M from YankeeNets
for a 50% share of the team, an "incredible request that led
to the collapse of the deal" (Bergen RECORD, 4/19).
