In Newark, Don Burke cites a source as saying that Nets
Principal Owner Lewis Katz "has been under some duress, much
of it self-imposed." The source: "There's some pressure
whether [Yankees Owner] George (Steinbrenner) is personally
involved or not. The Yankees presence creates pressure on
the Nets to change. The existence of the merger creates
pressure to change. These people are very sensitive to
public pressure" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 4/18)....In Chicago,
Avani Patel: "After drawing more than 38,000 on opening
night, the White Sox didn't draw that many in the next two
games combined. Sunday, they played in front of 10,929."
White Sox P Jim Parque: "We've been winning. It's mind-
boggling. I don't understand. What do we have to do?
Throw perfect games and hit every ball out of the park
before they come out?" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/17)....In
Orlando, Tim Povtak reports that the Magic have received a
75% renewal rate on their season tickets for next season,
compared to not reaching that mark last year until July.
Povtak notes the renewal deadline "has passed," but the team
is still trying to "contact those season ticket-holders who
have not renewed yet." The team had approximately 10,000
season-ticket holders this season, the "lowest number in
franchise history" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/18).
