          In S.F., C.W. Nevius, on the proximity of fans to the
     field at Pac Ball Park: "`Staying alert' is not enough. 
     Some kind of screen or low netting is going to be needed. 
     Everyone thinks it is a dumb idea until he or she is the one
     who gets clocked" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/13)....In Tampa, Carl
     Cronan writes that M/I Schottenstein Homes has become the
     first homebuilder to sign a sponsorship deal with Palace
     Sports & Entertainment to advertise at the Ice Palace.  The
     deal calls for M/I to have ads at the arena for AFL Storm
     games this summer and continuing through the 2000-01
     Lightning season (TAMPA BUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/10 issue).
