TNN KICKS OFF AFL COVERAGE TOMORROW: CLAIMS IT'S NO HOE-DOWN

TNN's coverage of tomorrow night's AFL Albany
Firebirds-Nashville Kats game, which marks the net's
"inaugural" AFL game, is examined by John Shiffman of the
Nashville TENNESSEAN, who notes the telecast will be the
first of 15 weekly AFL games TNN will air this season. TNN
Producer Michael Moore: "This is not country music football.
We're producing a football game. But we're doing it with a
bit of rock and roll attitude." Moore, who produced AFL
games for ESPN last year, said that he plans to add "a few
cameras, bringing the total to 13." In addition, "more
players and coaches will be miked this year. And viewers
and announcers generally will by privy to the play calls,
before they develop on the field." TNN also is "testing an
experimental camera to be placed on the referee's head."
Moore said that the "ref-cam may see action" by the middle
of the season (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 4/12).
