USSF SET TO UNVEIL NEW FORMAT FOR U.S. OPEN CUP

          In a new format to be announced today by the USSF, all
     12 MLS teams "will participate in" this year's U.S. Open Cup
     and the tournament "will be open to all" minor-league and
     amateur teams affiliated with the USSF, according to Peter
     Brewington of USA TODAY.  USSF COO Tom King, on the
     tournament: "This is one of the most thrilling properties we
     have, and we're trying to enhance it."  The USSF "also has
     adjusted the schedule" for the event, with firm dates set
     for every round and a new bracket format in order to "draw
     more attention in the media and among fans."  MLS Rapids
     coach Glenn Myernick: "What we need to do is establish it
     and get some tradition.  I think it's absolutely mandatory
     [MLS] teams play."  The first round is June 4, with the
     final tentatively set for October 22 (USA TODAY, 4/12).
