COCA-COLA SAYS DEAL WITH TIGER IS CAUSE, NOT GOLF, MARKETING

Coca-Cola has signed on as the official beverage
company of the Tiger Woods Foundation and will also sponsor
two of the Foundations' annual events this year -- a series
of Tiger Woods Junior Golf Clinics beginning in May and the
"Tiger Jam" concert tentatively scheduled for October 7 in
Las Vegas (Coca-Cola). Coca-Cola spokesperson Scott Jacobson
called the effort "really a community relations initiative"
rather than a golf marketing program. Jacobson added Coca-
Cola has been "moving away from sponsoring golf tournaments
on the national level and golf as a sport doesn't fit with
our brands from a marketing perspective" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/11).
