KUMAR JOINS WANG IN ISLES BID: BID TO INCLUDE REDEVELOPMENT?

Computer Associates Int'l CEO and prospective Islanders
bidder Charles Wang said yesterday that fellow business exec
Sanjay Kumar has become a "partner" in Wang's $175M bid for
the team, according to Mark Harrington of NEWSDAY. The two
"declined to elaborate on negotiations" for the team but
"hinted" that they may involve "more than just acquiring"
the franchise. Wang, suggesting there were a "variety of
operational issues that needed to be tied down": "We've got
to bring this team back." Wang and Kumar "would not
comment" on reports that the deal "may include redevelopment
of" the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. Harrington writes
that Kumar's involvement in the bid "should come as no
surprise, given his close ties to Wang and their long
personal relationship" (NEWSDAY, 4/11). Wang tops BUSINESS
     WEEK's list of the top-paid CEOs in the U.S. with a '99
salary of $4.6M, and $650M in long-term compensation. Kumar
is listed as having a total '99 compensation package worth
$359M. Ranking ninth is Compuware CEO and Hurricanes Owner
Peter Karmanos, with a '99 base salary of $2.2M, and $85M in
long-term compensation (BUSINESS WEEK, 4/17 issue).
