MLB TEAM MEDIA RIGHTS, PART II: YANKS' $48M THE ENVY OF AL

          BROADCASTING & CABLE offers details of MLB team rights,
     and the following lists broadcast, cable and radio deals for
     AL teams in 2000, as well as the number of games, deal terms
     (status/length of deal) and estimated 2000 rights fee. 
     YR/YRS is a breakdown of the contract status: Year currently

     this year; TOR: Headline Sports radio has radio rights; TAM:
     team retains broadcast TV rights, buys air time on stations
     and keeps all ad inventory.  Estimated 2000 TV revenue is
     $3M; CHI: Team and WGN-TV have revenue-sharing partnership. 
     WGN-TV buys airtime on WCIU-TV.  Estimated 2000 TV revenue
     is $13M; CLE: WUAB-TV holds broadcast TV rights, but team
     shares revenue.  Team retains radio rights, sells all
     inventory.  Estimated 2000 radio revenue is $8-10M.  WMMS-
     FM, co-owned with WTAM-AM, airs six games; DET: Team retains
     radio rights.  Estimated 2000 radio revenue is $3M; KAS: FSN
     pays KMBC-TV to carry games.  KMBC controls KCWE through
     local marketing agreement; MIN: MSC sublicenses 25 games to
     KMSP-TV; ANA: team shares revenue with KCAL-TV and KLAC-AM. 
     Team retains radio rights.  Estimated 2000 TV revenue is
     $10-12M, while estimated 2000 radio revenue is $4.5M; OAK:
     team retains radio rights.  Estimated 2000 radio revenue is
     $2M; SEA: KIRO-TV holds broadcast TV rights; TEX: FSN owns
     KDFW-TV and KDFI-TV.  KXAS-TV will carry five games this
     year, because of an existing contract (B&C, 3/27 issue). 
          PADRES DEAL: Spanish-language XEWT has agreed to
     televise a record 138 Padres games this season. The network
     is seen in both the U.S. and Mexico (Padres).
