SLOC PLANS TO USE INTERNET FOR REVENUE; PAYNE: "GOOD LUCK"

The SLOC plans to "tap the Internet as a source of
much-needed cash," but IOC Marketing Dir Michael Payne said
that such a move "could turn into a drain on their budget,"
according to Lisa Riley Roche of DESERET NEWS. Payne: "I'm
not going to say they'll be making money." Instead, Payne
said the SLOC's goal for the Internet should be "to ensure
first and foremost that it's not going to cost anything."
Payne suggested that the SLOC "will be lucky to break even"
in its Internet endeavors, based on the "significant
dollars" that SOCOG's Internet site cost. Although there
are "zero" dollars in the SLOC budget for a site, SLOC COO
Fraser Bullock said that the organization will be ready to
announce the names of content and equipment providers for
the Web site "within the next 10 weeks" (DES. NEWS, 3/29).
