ISP TURNING A NEW LEPAGE? ALL-EQUITY NASCAR DEAL A RISK?

VA-based ISP FamilyClick.com's primary sponsorship of
the Roush Racing-owned No. 16 Winston Cup Ford driven by
Kevin LePage is "being called one of the most creative, and
potentially most lucrative," in the history of NASCAR,
according to Jensen & Ashenfelter of the SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL. FamilyClick, which "filters out pornographic and
offensive Web sites," has secured primary sponsorship of the
car without "having to pay" the $5-12M that "most primary
sponsors pony up," as Roush "instead ... is getting an
ownership stake in the venture." If FamilyClick "eventually
goes public," Roush "could gain far more than what it would
have received just from sponsorship dollars." But if the
ISP "doesn't make it, the deal might not be as beneficial"
to Roush as a "traditional arrangement." Team Owner Jack
Roush, on the deal: "There's a great risk, but I'm a risk
     taker" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/27 issue).
STICKER SHOCK! Rusty Wallace earned $87,585 for winning
the Winston Cup Food City 500 in Bristol on Sunday, as not
carrying a "sticker promoting" NASCAR's official spray paint
Plasti-Kote cost Wallace $4,300 in bonus money, and not
carrying the sticker of NASCAR's official sports beverage
Gatorade "cost him another" $10,000 (FL TIMES-UNION, 3/27).
