49ers VP John York said that the team "is ready to
resume talks" on construction of a new stadium, according to
Clark Judge of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. York said that he
"anticipates meeting in early" April with S.F. Mayor Willie
Brown and representatives of Mills Corp., the developer
looking to build a mall and entertainment complex adjacent
to a proposed stadium. York said that while he didn't have
a cost estimate for a new facility, he "reiterated" that the
49ers "will keep all options for a stadium open, including
the construction of a mall." York also said that "he does
not anticipate" changing his management team, other than
adding a club president this spring to oversee non-football
operations (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 3/26). In S.F., John
Crumpacker wrote that much of the stadium plan will be
directed by 49ers exec John Wasson, who was hired two years
ago to be the team's "point man" for the project. York, on
Wasson: "He remains on the payroll. He has not been put to
100 percent use." The Yorks, who live in OH, also want to
hire a team president to oversee the club's headquarters in
CA, and NFL Dir of Operations Gene Washington "has been
mentioned as a candidate" (S.F. EXAMINER, 3/26).
