April's issue of BRILL'S CONTENT lists the "best of the
web 2000," with ESPN.com earning the "Best Overall Quality"
award for sports sites, as it "continues to lead the
revolution in Internet sports coverage." NBA.com is the
"Best League Site" for its "clean look" and "easy access to
news"; FoxSports.com gains credit for the "Best Regional
Coverage" for its 18 accessible regional Web sites; CBS
SportsLine.com wins "Best NCAA Tourney Site" for its
"Basketball Live" feature; and The Sporting News earns "Best
Use of Magazine Content" for its "well-researched reports on
any team" (BRILL'S CONTENT, 4/2000 issue).
HITTING THE WEB LINKS LIVE: PGATour.com and
USANetwork.com will jointly offer 9 1/2 hours of live Web
coverage of the 17th hole at next week's TPC. The feature,
called "Live@17," will be available March 23 and 24 on both
sites beginning at 9:00am ET (USA). The SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL's Noah Liberman writes that the feature "is the most
advanced and comprehensive video coverage of a PGA Tour
event to date." Titleist and Nasdaq have signed on as
sponsors of the Web cast with "up to six more sponsors"
possible (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/13 issue).
NOTES: MLB has launched its Official Fantasy Baseball
Game for $19.95 at majorleaguebaseball.com. All league
winners will receive a 2000 League Champion baseball. Other
prizes include a trip to the 2000 World Series (MLB). USA
Today Baseball Weekly and Total Sports have joined to create
www.totalbaseballweekly.com. The site, powered by Total
Sports, will feature USA Today Baseball Weekly content along
with Total Sports' TotalCast coverage of MLB (Total Sports).
...In St. Louis, David Nicklaus profiles Max Broadcasting
Network (MBN), a Web company which launched their first
site, MaxFootball.com, last October, Today, the site
launches their second site, MaxBaseball.com. MBN President
& COO Phillip Levy said that the company "expects to close
within two months" on $10M in financing. Nicklaus writes
that MBN "has dreams of an eventual Max Broadcasting network
of a dozen or more sites" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 3/16).
