MEDIA NOTES

TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET edition of FSN's
"Fox Sports News" led with Pacers-Hawks, followed by Bulls-
Hornets. The first non-NBA report, at 3:26 into the
broadcast, was allegations of abuse involving IN Univ.
basketball coach Bobby Knight. Last night's 11:00pm ET
edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with the Knight
allegations, followed by a report that Univ. of AZ C Loren
Woods will miss the NCAA Tournament because of a back
injury. The first non-college basketball story, at 6:13,
     was Pacers-Hawks. Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of ESPN's
"SportsCenter" led with the triple OT Georgetown Univ.-Univ.
of VA men's college basketball NIT game, followed by Stars-
Devils. The first NBA report, at 9:54, was Nets C Jayson
Williams breaking a toe on his left foot (THE DAILY).
SPURS RATING: Fox Sports Net's coverage of Tuesday's
Hawks-Spurs game, which marked the return of F Sean Elliott
after a kidney transplant, earned an 8.2/10 local San
Antonio rating, the second highest all-time TV audience for
a Spurs game on the RSN (FSN). In N.Y., Harvey Araton
writes that the NBA "managed to undersell the best story it
had in this season of viewers' discontent," as TNT did not
carry Tuesday's game. Turner VP/PR Greg Hughes noted that
the net's Rockets-Knicks coverage "featured cutaways" to the
Hawks-Spurs game, but, "as far as he knew, the N.B.A. did
not ask the network to switch games" (N.Y. TIMES, 3/16).
