PUT YOUR DUKES UP ... FOR SALE: BASEBALL CLUB TO MOVE TO OR

Portland Family Entertainment (PFE) announced yesterday
that it has completed a deal giving it the right to purchase
the PCL Triple A Albuquerque Dukes from Owners Bob and Joan
Lozinak. The Dukes will remain in NM for the 2000 season.
After Minor League Baseball and the PCL have approved PFE's
ownership application, PFE will file to relocate the
franchise to Portland for the 2001 season (PFE). In
Albuquerque, Dennis Latta wrote that the Dukes, which
Lozinak bought for "less than" $1M in '79, were sold for an
estimated $10-12M (ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL, 3/13). In OR, Roger
Anthony wrote that after the acquisition of the Dukes, PFE
will be "in position to close a deal" with the city of
Portland, in which the operation of Portland's 74-year-old
Civic Stadium "would be turned over" to the partnership.
The city will retain ownership of the facility and "pay for
all but" $4M of a $37M stadium remodeling project that will
add 32 luxury suites (Portland OREGONIAN, 3/13).
