HUIZENGA SEEKS BLOCKBUSTER: WANTS NEW NAMING DEAL IN FL

Dolphins Owner Wayne Huizenga "has gone to court to get
out within" 60 days of a naming rights deal with Fruit of
the Loom's Pro Player, according to Charles Elmore of the
PALM BEACH POST. Fruit of the Loom dissolved the Pro Player
brand last month (see THE DAILY, 2/28). Court documents
obtained by Dow Jones News Service indicate that Huizenga's
lawyers want a federal bankruptcy court in DE to "let the
stadium out" of the remaining six years of a 10-year naming
right deal, which is estimated to be worth $2M per year, or
$20M. A judge will consider the request at a March 27
hearing, and if the judge agrees, Huizenga "would be free"
to sign a new naming rights deal. Huizenga and Fruit of the
Loom reportedly "reached a deal" December 13 that "adjusted
the payments the company was required to make by an
undisclosed amount." The deal allowed Huizenga to cancel
the contract with 60 days' notice (PALM BEACH POST, 3/14).
