GEORGE MITCHELL TAKES MOUND, PITCHES FOR NEW FENWAY

Former U.S. Senator George Mitchell yesterday endorsed
public funding for a new Fenway Park, which is estimated to
cost $600M, according to Macero & Bartolotta of the BOSTON
HERALD. Mitchell "made a private pitch to top" execs of the
Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Exec Committee, during
which Red Sox CEO John Harrington said that the team's
"financial strategy will be made public in 'late March' or
early spring." Sources say that Red Sox officials have told
members of a legislative committee that the team "has less
than" $300M "to contribute to the project," and would
"likely need between" $250-300M in public aid "to make the
project work" (BOSTON HERALD, 3/10). Also in Boston, Meg
Vaillancourt notes that Mitchell, who is a member of a
special committee studying MLB's economics, "urged" business
leaders to support a new Fenway (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/10).
