PAUL ALLEN'S VULCAN GRIP ON SPORTING NEWS OFFERS OPTIONS

The top execs for Vulcan Ventures Founder Paul Allen,
who recently acquired The Sporting News (TSN), "promise to
give the tried-and-true publication a dose of financial and
technological adrenaline going into a new century amid a
scramble for sports programming and information that shows
no sign of letting up," according to Angelo Bruscas of the
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. As part of "a larger move into
the cable sports market," a TSN TV report "might be" the
next way in which Vulcan's content can be distributed
through cable and computers. The "initial goal" for Vulcan
"will likely be to boost" TSN's online potential, but "don't
expect it to be everything to every sort of sports fan or
change its primary focus" (SEATTLE P-I, 2/28).
