TNT'S GOODWILL HUNTING RESULTS IN 1.1 AVERAGE RATING

TNT's four-night coverage of the inaugural Winter
Goodwill Games generated a 1.1 average Nielsen rating,
representing approximately 836,000 HHs, according to Pete
Dougherty of the Albany TIMES UNION. The ratings ranged
from a low of 0.6 on Thursday night to a high of a 1.5 on
Saturday, when TNT carried the figure-skating finals.
Dougherty writes that for comparison, ESPN's coverage of
college basketball last week averaged a 1.0 rating, the X-
Games a 0.5 and the NHL a 0.4. But an ESPN spokesperson
"prefaced those numbers by noting that they were all
stronger in the advertiser-friendly 18-34 age group." TNT
spokesperson Greg Hughes, on the ratings: "For a first-time
event, where you're building new fans, we're very pleased."
TNT's coverage of the '98 Summer Goodwill Games averaged a
1.6 rating (Albany TIMES UNION, 2/24).
