ANALYSTS POSITIVE ON QUOKKA SPORTS AS COMPANY SEEKS GROWTH

Quokka.com's partnerships with "motor sports, mountain
climbing, Olympic coverage and ... America's Cup," were
examined by CNNfn's Bill Tucker, who noted that Quokka
"provides a cyber forum for the athlete so they can tell
their own story" using "leading edge" technology. Quokka
Sports President & CEO Alan Ramadan: "That's what happens on
television, you get the rationalized version. In this new
media, you actually get the real version. And that's ...
the most exciting thing about this medium." According to
Tucker, analysts "rate the stock a buy ... and revenues are
expected to grow to" $42M this year from $12M in '99.
Jupiter Communications Senior Analyst Patrick Keane, on the
lack of "mainstream" sports: "The audience is somewhat
narrow, but I would argue that the other big sports sites
... are not providing consumers with the kind of coverage
for those other categories of sports that Quokka is at this
point" ("Business Unusual," CNNfn, 2/17). FORBES ASAP's
Scott Lajoie profiles Quokka and writes its Olympic
partnership with NBC "could prove ... invaluable," as Quokka
is "learning from the veteran broadcaster how to weave
compelling stories, something that is critical if Quokka
hopes to become a mainstream sports broadcasting company."
Lajoie adds NBC is learning from Quokka "the challenges of
sports immersion" (FORBES ASAP, 2/21 issue).
