Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said yesterday that he
will meet with an NBA owner on February 24 to discuss
bringing a team to the city, according to Steve Carp of the
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Though Goodman would not reveal
the owner, Rockets COO George Postolos said that team Owner
Les Alexander "is expected to be in Las Vegas next week" for
a charity dinner. But Postolos said, "He's not going to be
meeting (next week) with Mayor Goodman. That's not to say
he will not be meeting with Mayor Goodman at some point in
the future. I'm not going to deny that there have been
conversations between the Rockets and Mayor Goodman, but
that's not the purpose of Mr. Alexander's trip." Postolos:
"My colleagues at the NBA have been very impressed with
Oscar Goodman. ... We think Las Vegas is an attractive
market for an NBA city and that Oscar Goodman is the kind of
guy who gets things done" (L.V. REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2/17).
Goodman: "I don't want to breach any confidences or go back
on my word by revealing the name. But I will be meeting
with [the owner] on the 24th" (L.V. SUN, 2/16).
