SIGN OF THE TIMES: CHURCHILL DOWNS UNVEILS LOGO

Churchill Downs Inc. has "unveiled a logo of its twin
grandstand spires that it will use on signs and racing
forms" across all its properties, according to Amy Baldwin
of the LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, who wrote that each track
name will appear with the logo, along with the words, "A
Churchill Downs Company." Churchill Downs President Thomas
Meeker, who "likened the corporate branding effort to the
Nike 'swoosh'": "There is an element of expectation that we
are going to create in our customers' minds just like Nike
with their swoosh." Meeker added that Churchill Downs will
spend $2M "putting the new logo in place" at its five
tracks. The logo was created by Louisville-based agency
Red7e last fall (LX HERALD-LEADER, 2/10). Meeker will
travel to Churchill's other properties "in order to meet
with employees of the racetracks to explain branding
     principles" (DAILY RACING FORM, 2/11).
