edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with the appeal
hearing of MLB's suspension of Braves P John Rocker,
followed by a report on Thomas. The 11:00pm ET edition of
ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with an update on the possible
trade of Mariners OF Ken Griffey, Jr. to the Reds, followed
by Dolphins QB Dan Marino deciding to void his contract.
GREAT SCOTT? Thrashers Dir of Radio Broadcasting Dan
Kamal, on the team's play-by-play radio announcer Scott
Ferrall: "He says something wild every game, every period.
He'll go off on tangents. He'll call players ugly -- our
own players." In Pittsburgh, Chuck Finder notes Farrell was
"called into the front office" after the sixth game of the
season when he "referred to the Thrashers choking in ...

NOTES: The Tigers have extended the contract of radio
announcer Ernie Harwell through 2001 (AP, 2/10)....In
Toronto, William Houston reports that the CBC drew an
average audience of 1.557 million viewers for the NHL All-
Star Game on Sunday. Houston notes that viewership was down
from last year's 1.670 million "mainly because viewers tuned
into ABC Sports' telecast" instead. But he noted the "huge"
audience for Saturday's skills competition, which averaged
1.327 million viewers (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/10). SI
contacted the Raptors on Tuesday "requesting some time" with
F Vince Carter during the NBA's All-Star Weekend in Oakland.
SI is "planning to feature him on its cover ... in an
