SFX SAYS IT'S OUT OF THE PICTURE TO PURCHASE ISLANDERS

          SFX Entertainment "has no plans to buy" the Islanders,
     according to Alan Hahn of NEWSDAY.  SFX Exec VP Howard Tytel
     "acknowledged" that SFX was in "preliminary discussions"
     last year to buy the team, but the "idea had been dropped." 
     Tytel said SFX "is not a potential buyer for a [NHL]
     franchise or any sports franchise."  However, Tytel "did not
     rule out an involvement" with a new Isles arena, once a
     "deal is struck to construct one to replace" the Nassau
     Coliseum.  But Hahn writes that SFX "might have to get in
     line behind" SMG.  Hahn also cites an NHL source as saying
     that it's "unlikely" a sale of the Islanders to SMG parent
     Pritzker Co. "would be approved" by the league.  Hahn: "The
     feeling is that Pritzker's interest in the Islanders would
     be met with skepticism by the NHL" (NEWSDAY, 2/10).
